I thought you’d never ask.
Q. What is The British Taxi?
Well…we are quite the unique bunch, really. We offer the largest arrangement of London taxis in the USA, boasting a fleet that includes Austin, Beardmore, Winchester and the TX series taxicabs. While our vintage vehicles are a big hit in the wedding industry, our classic fleet of London cabs is commonly recruited for brand awareness campaigns, across the country. We do film and TV work, as well as partner with local businesses and vendors to ensure safe and stylish pre-arranged transportation in our local region of Wilmington, NC. Please understand…if you stick your thumb out at one of our cabbies, he can only give you a ‘thumbs up’ back. All bookings need to be arranged in advance.
Q. How do I book?
Simply fill out our online form. Click the ‘Request a Quote’ tab at the top of this page and you will be prompted to fill in some details about your occasion. Or call us at 910.442.8294(TAXI)
Q. How many passengers can your cabs accomodate?
The vintage black taxis from the 1950’s are quite cosy and favor up to four passengers. All the rest can comfortably seat five passengers. Our Stretched taxi seats up to eight passengers.
Q. What distances are you willing to travel?
Since our taxis are so rare, customers use our services across the USA. We are able to transport our entire fleet to your location or marketing territory. Call us directly to discuss fleet transportation in more detail.
Q. Should passengers tip?
Our drivers do their best to make you feel like royalty. If you receive extra special treatment and feel the need to tip the driver, it will be a welcomed gesture. Of course, it is not compulsory but it does encourage better service and better relationships. The decision is in your hands.
Q. Are the vehicles really from London, England?
Absolutely. In fact, they were operating as taxis on the streets of London, picking up passengers at Buckingham Palace, Kensington High Street and Hyde Park, to name a few locations. They were shipped to the United States and very few can be seen in such fine condition. These are very rare vehicles, not only in this part of the world….but in Britain too.
Q. Do you work with charities and non-profits?
Yes we do. A ride in the British taxi makes a wonderful raffle prize or silent auction prize. We encourage charities and non-profits to tell us about their fundraising efforts. We will get involved as often as we can.
Q. Is it difficult to operate a right hand drive vehicle?
It depends on your level of confidence! It takes only a short period of time to really get the hang of it. However, our chauffeurs spend many hours in the driving seat prior to transporting passengers. The UK foot pedals function in the same way the US foot pedals do, so driving an automatic vehicle typically isn’t too difficult. Stick shift vehicles, like the Austin FX3 and Beardmore MK7, can be more challenging as your left hand is changing gears! But like most things, practice makes perfect…our chauffeurs are very familiar with the vehicles and safety is always our number one priority.Request a Quote
